1. I’ve never used self storage, how does it work?
It’s really easy. We rent you storage space and you just bring the items to be stored. If required we can recommend “a man with a van” to move the goods into store for you. We are always very pleased to show you our storage facilities, without any obligation.
2. What storage space do you have and how do I calculate what space I’ll require?
Each storage space is an individual lockable unit, we have units from 25 sq ft (floor area) to 260 sq ft. Look at our space calculator to work out your specific requirements, generally 25-45 sq ft units are ideal for smaller items and boxes, 70-100 sq ft is about the size of a transit van and 135-150 sq ft is the size of a single garage.
3. What are the storage units and are they dry?
All the units are in new or restored buildings. Some are steel containers, some insulated steel containers and some steel partitioned storage units, all of which have either wide hinged doors or roller doors. We have one building that is climate controlled with various sized fully enclosed storage rooms.
4. What can I store?
The storage is used by domestic and business customers and is suitable for most goods, but please refer to our list of prohibited items, (such as food, animal matter, explosives, combustible material or liquids), are not allowed to be stored. For certain goods the insulated containers or climate controlled rooms may be preferable.
5. How do I go about renting storage space?
Contact us and agree the space required and when you wish to rent. If you decide you wish to rent, immediately following a viewing we can usually agree everything straight away. It is usually best to visit in advance of you wishing to bring your goods, so we can do the paperwork and explain how the security works. Then you can access your storage unit whenever you want 24/7. You have to provide your padlock for the room you rent so that you are responsible for the key (we can provide padlocks if necessary). We are quite happy if it’s more convenient for you, sometimes if you are moving to the area it may be your first visit, to deal with paperwork when you arrive for the first time.
6. What is the rental period and how do I pay?
We rent units on a month by month basis and you just need to give two weeks notice that you are leaving. When you initially rent space we ask for one calendar months rent as a security deposit (refundable on leaving and return of the security fob and leaving the unit empty and clean) and the first calendar month’s rental in advance, plus insurance. The payment may be made by cheque, cash, debit or credit card* 3% admin charge on credit cards only*. Subsequent calendar month’s rent and insurance is due before the start of the rental period. The preferred method of payment is for you to set up a direct debit into Hogleaze Storage Ltd bank account.
7. Yes, what about insurance
We insist that you have insurance cover of at least £1000. The cost is £3 per month per £1000 of value of stored goods.
8. I’m not sure how long I need the storage and my space requirement may change?
That’s no problem at all. You just keep renting as long as you want and give us the two weeks notice when you do eventually want to leave. If your space requirements change, if you need more or want to reduce then we’ll do our best to sort this out as seamlessly as possible.
9. Can I reserve storage space in advance?
Yes we’ll reserve space for you for a period of two weeks at no additional cost, and for a longer period with a non refundable deposit if the space is subsequently not required. If the space is taken up the deposit will be used as part of the initial security deposit.
10. What is the access like to your storage?
You have access to your storage unit 24/7, we even managed to ferry people to their unit in our 4WD during the snow in December!! All buildings have good lighting. Access to the sites and storage buildings is suitable for the largest vehicles. The storage units within the buildings are never too far from the main door and there are trolleys available. In one building some of the units are on a mezzanine floor which is accessed by a wide shallow stairway.
